Duke Oursler has set his roots deep in the mud of the Mississippi River. Living in rural Western Illinois he has developed his own country folk/rock jam band sound inspired by the beauty of the Illinois banks of the Mississippi River and it’s people. His songwriting and sound is influenced by variety of musical styles and artists which include Johnny Cash, Blues Traveler, Alan Jackson, Shawn Mullins, Dave Matthews, Turnpike Troubadours, The Avett Brothers, Drake White, Brent Cobb and Will Hoge to name a few.
Performing as a solo act and with his band, Duke tells heart felt blue collar stories, with honest and humorous observations, combined with driving rhythms and an energetic stage presence that will get you moving, laughing and loving. While attending college in Cedar Falls Iowa Duke Began his music career by co-founding the band Third Person. Duke wrote songs and played rhythm guitar for Third Person for a few years before striking out on his own and playing solo shows and writing music while pursuing and Art degree. He later attended graduate school at Georgia Southern University where he continued to develop his creative writing process and finished his graduate degree.
Duke and his wife moved to a small cabin on the Illinois bank of Mississippi River near Burlington IA. The river community became a regular part of the subject matter of his songwriting. Duke formed a band Duke and The Band on The Fly 5 years ago. The Band is known for their tendency to jam! Duke and his band often cover a variety of tunes from Tom Petty and John Prine to The Rolling Stones and The Spin Doctors. Duke and The Band put on a high energy folk/rock show focused on getting folks moving and shaking.
